چکیده

In the context of forest modeling, it is often reasonable to assume a mukiplicative heteroscedastic error structure to the data. Under such circumstances ordinary least squares no longer provides minimum variance estimates of the model parameters. Through study of the error structure, a suitable error variance model can be specified and its parameters estimated. This error model is used to construct a covariance matrix which in turn is used to form an estimated generalized least squares estimator of the forest model parameters. The theory is illustrated with data on baldcypress (Taxodium distichum [L.] Rich.). A multiple linear regression equation is developed for predicting diameter at 3 m from solid-wood stump diameter (i.e., diameter inside the fluting) and stump height. By modeling the error structure, standard errors on three of the four coefficients from the tree diameter-stump dimensions regression were reduced by 13 to 50%. The effect on prediction confidence intervals is graphically illustrated. FOR. %I. 39(4):670-679. ADDITIONAL

Survey of Directional Felling and Analysis of Effective Factors on Felling Error (Case Study; Iranian Caspian forests)

Economic and environmental logging is important for sustainable wood production in the Caspian forests, north of Iran. Predetermination of the skid trail network and directional felling is a usual recommended method to reduce logging impact. The aim of this study was evaluation of directional felling and finding factors effective on felling error. Totally 135 trees were selected randomly for di...

Experimental Investigation and Modeling of Carbon Dioxide Adsorption from Model Flue gas

In this work, the adsorption of carbon dioxide from model flue gas on different adsorbents has been investigated. Using simplified modeling, parameters such as the total mass transfer coefficient and the effective diffusivity have been determined. Experiments were carried out in two sections: firstly, adsorption of pure carbon dioxide on different adsorbents was measured at pressures ranging fr...

Predicting maximum branch diameter from crown dimensions, stand characteristics and tree species

Forest resource inventories must include wood quality information to support the optimum use of wood fibre. The objective of this study was to develop models relating maximum live branch diameter (MBD), which affects lumber value, to tree and stand characteristics that can be measured through current and emerging remote sensing technologies. Using non-linear mixed effects models for six Canadia...

مدل‌سازی مشخصات سرپای درخت برای برآورد حجم و زی توده گونه کیکم Acer monspessulanum L. Subsp. cinerascens (Boiss.) با استفاده از رگرسیون چند متغیره

Predicting the volume and biomass of multi-stem maple trees (Acer monspessulanum Subsp. cinerascens Boiss.) based on standing traits is necessary in forestry. In this research twenty sample trees were selected in four transects randomly in Bagh-Shadi Forest of Yazd province. After measuring the diameter at root collar (DRC), tree height, stems numbers and crown diameter and area all trees were ...
